Orsogna and coastal targets in support of British Eighth Army,
Avezzano marshalling yard and villages along United States
Fifth Army front, troops at San Pietro Infine and Viticuso
and nearby gun positions, viaduct and railway bridge East
of Guidonia airfield, crossing at Furbara, and trains and
trucks in Rome area. General Beverley takes over as new Commanding
General, XII Troop Carrier Command (Provisional).
Fifteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-38 Lightning fighters carry out weather reconnaissance over
the Adriatic. B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers of 2d and
99th Bomber Groups are recalled because of weather. All groups
of 47th (B-24 Liberator heavy bombers) and 42d (B-26 Marauder
medium bombers) Bomber Wings cancel operations.
Fourteenth Air Force. 15 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Wuchang and Hankow, and
3 bomb Changte. P-40 fighters strafe sampans above Nanhsien
and attack targets in Salween River area, including road traffic
South of Hsia Chai, barracks at Tachai, and town of San Tsun.
Fifth Air Force. 50 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers bomb and strafe New Britain coast
from Borgen Bay to Rein Bay. 19 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers
and A-20 Havoc light bombers hit barges coastal installations,
and roads in Fortification Point area. 60 P-39 fighters hit
Bogadjim Road, barges and enemy held villages along North
coast of Huon Peninsula, and enemy positions in Ramu River
valley.
Seventh Air Force. 19 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Funafuti bomb Mille. The
HEs claim 5 fighters destroyed.
