Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic
Air Force (NASAF) Wellingtons pound town and docks on Pantelleria
during
7-8 June
1943. Air offensive against the island increase during the
following day as fighters, light bombers, medium bombers,
and heavy bombers of Northwest African Strategic Air Force
(NASAF) and Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) continue
to bomb throughout the day. Naval forces bombard harbour and
shore batteries. Surrender requests, dropped by aeroplane,
bring no response. P-38 Lightning fighters attack barracks
North of Segariu and airfield at Villacidro.
Ninth Air Force. The British Royal Air Force (RAF) heavy bombers
bomb Mesina ferry terminal. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers of
2 groups hit Pantelleria, directing major effort at gun emplacements.
Fourteenth Air Force. 7 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 6 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers
, with P-40 escorts, are dispatched to bomb shipping and dock
installations at Haiphong. Bad weather prevents striking the
primary targets, alternates, including Hongay shipping, rail
yard, and power facilities, Gia Lam airfield and warehouses
East of Hanoi are bombed. P-40 fighters bomb and strafe Japanese
Headquarters at Tatung, barracks East of Lamaing on the Salween
River, and a camp North of Lungling.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers bomb Koepang and hit area Southeast
of Dili. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers unsuccessfully attack
shipping at Waingapoe and off Wewak.
Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers on armed reconnaissance bomb
Kahili airfield and Ballale Island.
Eleventh Air Force.
A United States Army Air Force (USAAF) C-47 Skytrain transport
aircraft is the first Army Air Force aeroplane to land at
Attu, landing fighters crews at Alexai Point. All other flying
cancelled due to weather.
