The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Mosquitos fighter bombers
attacked the following Cologne Düsseldorf, no aircraft
lost.
In Sicily. San Fratello and Sant Agata captured by Americans.
Amphibious United States force landed east of Cape Orlando,
capturing l,500 prisoners. It was also announced that the
fall of Biancavilla to the British 8th Army.
Russian Front. In Bryansk sector Russians captured 130 places.
Soviet forces made advances of 8 to l0 miles made in Kharkov
direction against a Wehrmacht ground forces.
Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic
Air Force (NASAF) B-26 Marauder medium bombers hit highway
and rail bridges at Angitola, while P-38 Lightning fighters
strafe trains and other targets South West of the town. Northwest
African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) light bombers and medium
bombers pound Randazzo. Fighters hit road targets North of
Etna, shipping in Straits of Messina and cover ground forces
at Saint' Agata di Militello.
Ninth Air Force. Over 90 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Randazzo area. More than
130 P-40 fighters hit shipping at Messina and provide ground
support in Northeast Sicily as United States and British forces
push East and North, capturing Saint' Agata di Militello,
Monte Camolato, and Bronte.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers attack Larat, shipping at Semboh,
and barges at Kokas.
Thirteenth Air Force. 23 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, with P-38 Lightning fighters,
P-39 fighters, and Navy F4U Corsair fighter as cover, bomb
Vila and Buki harbour.
