Fighter escort is excellent. No aircraft are lost.
Ninth Air Force. Headquarters Army Air Force decides to transfer
General Brereton, Commanding General, and his Headquarters
staff from Africa to United Kingdom to reform Ninth Air Force
in European Theatre of Operations (ETO) by absorbing VIII
A Support Command.
Twelfth Air Force. XII Bomber Command B-17 Flying Fortress
heavy bombers bomb 2 satellite airfields at Foggia. B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers and B-26 Marauder medium bombers hit road and
rail bridges at Sapri and Trebisacce and roads at Lauria.
P-40 fighters hit landing ground at Pabillonis and barges
off Portoscuso. United States A-20 Havoc light bombers of
Northwest African Tactical Bomber Force (NATBF) support British

September 1943 near Pizzo in an unsuccessful attempt to cut
off enemy retreat up West coast of Italian toe. Medium bombers
and light bombers, in afternoon raids, bomb Crotone airfield
and roadblock and gun batteries North of Catanzaro.
Tenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers attack Gokteik Viaduct, causing minor
damage.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers and B-26 Marauder medium bombers bomb

targets on road to Markham. P-38 Lightning fighters successfully
turn back enemy bombing attack on Morobe. C-47 Skytrain transport
aircraft begin flying Australian 7th Division to Nadzab. A-20
Havoc light bombers hit Gasmata area.
