B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Eleusis airfield while 56
B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers hit Kalamaki airfield.
Other B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers return to base with
bombs because of heavy overcast. The heavy bombers and escorting
P-38 Lightning fighters claim several enemy fighters shot
down. 1 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers is destroyed by flak.
Fourteenth Air Force. Changte is pounded throughout the day
by more than 30 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and numerous
fighters. Other fighters strafe targets in railway yard at
Hsipaw and damage train at Hopong.
Fifth Air Force. Nearly 100 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and B-25 Mitchell medium bombers
hit Cape Gloucester and Borgen Bay areas. P-40 fighters strafe
Cape Hoskins. A-20 Havoc light bombers and B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers attack villages and supply dumps around Finschhafen.
Thirteenth Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Monoitu Mission area, and
24 others, with fighters support, pound Tarlena village. P-40
fighters carry out strafing strike in Arawa Bay area near
Kieta. P-39 fighters strafe West coast of Buka. General fighters
patrols strafe Chabai, Koromira, and Monoitu areas. Kieta
supply area is bombed by a B-24 Liberator heavy bombers on
armed reconnaissance.
