Air Force during absence of General Spaatz. XII Bomber Command
B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers hit Bologna marshalling
yard. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and B-26 Marauder medium
bombers bomb Formia road, road loop North of Mignano, and
Isernia chokepoint. Northwest African Tactical Bomber Force
(NATBF), XII A Support Command, and Desert Air Force (DAF)
aircraft bomb numerous targets in and North of battle area,
including heavy traffic in Isernia area, petrol dumps at Alfedena,
trains at Termoli, and towns of Venafro and Isolella.
Fourteenth Air Force. A few United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and P-40 fighters attack foundry
at Shihhweiyao. Damaging hits are scored on barracks, on antiaircraft
position, blast furnaces, hoppers, and a steam plant. 10 fighters
intercept a force of about 50 Zeros West of Kweilin, shoot
down 1 enemy fighters. The enemy force turns back.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers carry out coastal sweep West to Madang,
bombing and strafing villages and barges. B-17 Flying Fortress
heavy bombers hit Bogadjim Road and jetties at Erima. B-24
Liberator heavy bombers bomb Babo area.
