Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). During
1-2
June 1943, Wellingtons of Northwest African Strategic Air
Force (NASAF) hit Pantelleria and drop pamphlets on Naples.
Fighters and medium bombers hit the island during following
morning and afternoon. P-38 Lightning fighters attack Milo
airfield while P-40 fighters strafe targets in Sardinia.
Fourteenth Air Force. 5 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, escorted by 10 P-40 fighters,
bomb Pailochi airfield. 18 P-40 fighters strafe troop barges
and launches at Itu and 6 long columns of troops East of Changyang.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17
Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
bomb airfields at Wewak, Boram, Dagua, and Rut. Isolated shipping
strikes result in little damage to vessels and barges.
Thirteenth Air Force. 2 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers on armed reconnaissance attack
gun positions, cargo boats, and shipping at Numa Numa and
Tinputs.
