Twelfth Air Force. XII Bomber Command B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and B-26 Marauder medium bombers bomb bridges at or near Piana, Castelvenere, Amorosi, and Cancello Arnone. P-38 Lightning fighters bomb Ausonia defile and bridge near San Apollinare. United States and The British Royal Air Force (RAF) tactical aircraft hit town of San Giorgio del Sannio and roads in the area South of Benevento. United States Fifth Army opens attack on Avellino during 29-30 September 1943. General Eisenhower and Marshal Badoglio sign Italian surrender document on HMS Nelson off Malta.

Fourteenth Air Force. 9 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Myitkyina and Sadon during routine ferry trips over the Hump.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers on armed reconnaissance attack scattered shipping in Netherlands East Indies (NEI) and Solomon and Bismarck Seas.

Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40 fighters, P-38 Lightning fighters, and P-39 fighters join Navy fighters in supporting a strike by Navy dive bombers on barge depot at Kakasa. Other P-40 fighters strafe and set afire a barge off Sambi Point.
