Events On This Day

Tehran Conference begins and lasts until 30 November 1943. President Roosevelt, Mr Churchill, and Stalin discuss further action against Germany. OVERLORD and ANVIL are given priority over all other operations. Stalin agrees to commit Soviet forces against Japan after Germany's defeat.

Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb warehouses, docks, marshalling yards, barracks, shipping, and other targets in Sibenik, Zara, and Dubrovnik. Desert Air Force (DAF) fighters strafe trains between Dubrovnik and Metkovic, and Twelfth Air Force fighters hit vehicles and troops in battle area. Allied fighter-bombers bomb and strafe buildings, trucks, and roads in Lanciano, Fossacesia, Casoli areas.

Fifteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-26 Marauder medium bombers are recalled over South France due to bad weather. The medium bombers and their fighters escort claim 5 fighters destroyed in combat over French coast. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, with fighters escort, bomb railroad viaduct at Dogna.

Tenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers heavily damage Botataung docks at Rangoon; the heavy bombers claim 4 interceptors shot down. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers pound Sagaing.

Fourteenth Air Force. 8 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40 fighters bomb and strafe barracks area and village on West bank of the Saiween near Litsaoho. 6 others strafe town area and airfield at Luang Prabang and hit radio building, barracks, and tower at Tran Ninh. 8 P-40 fighters drop ammunition to besieged Chinese troops at Changte.

Fifth Air Force. Nearly 50 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb airfields at Wewak and Boram, and 40 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, B-26 Marauder medium bombers, and A-20 Havoc light bombers hit villages on Huon Peninsula and track in Finschhafen area.

Thirteenth Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb ant strafe Mutupina Point area. Fighters strafe Tinputs Harbour, barges at Tonolai and targets along West coast of Bougainville.

Seventh Air Force. 11 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Nanumea hit Nauru.
