Twelfth Air Force. 60 heavy bombers and medium bombers in
3 waves (B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers, and B-26 Marauder medium bombers) attack harbour,
shipping, and marshalling yards at Sfax. All missions are
escorted by P-38 Lightning fighters. P-40 fighters of XII
A Support Command attack infantry and artillery while supporting
French and United States ground forces in Ousseltia Valley
where Allies gain control of West exit and half of Kairouan
Pass.
Fifth Air Force.
United States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20 Havoc light bombers
bomb area from Garrison Hill to Komiatum Track and B-17 Flying
Fortress heavy bombers hit Wewak area. B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers carryout individual attacks at Salamaua, on cargo
vessel in Open Bay and nearby village in New Britain, and
on transport off Amboina.
Thirteenth Air Force. 5 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-26 Marauder medium bombers and 12 P-39 fighters attack airfields
at Vila on Kolombangara. P-38 Lightning fighters and P-40
fighters, along with Navy aircraft, hit shipping between Choiseul
and Kolombangara, claiming hits on a tanker and a smaller
vessel.
Seventh Air Force. 1 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers flies photo reconnaissance over
Nauru and Ocean Island.
Eleventh Air Force. Weather aeroplane encounters poor visibility
over Kiska. 2 patrols fly over Amchitka. The second runs into
poor weather and aborts. Attack on Kiska is cancelled due
to weather.
