Twelfth Air Force. XII Bomber Command P-39 fighters strafe
and bomb landing ground at Podgorica. XII A Support Command,
Northwest African Tactical Bomber Force (NATBF) and Desert
Air Force (DAF) concentrate on blocking roads and destroying
bridges. Town areas, vehicles, radio stations, trains, and
vessels are also attacked. Targets attacked are in or near
Frosinone, Formia, Gaeta, Cetraro, along Sangro River, Kuna,
along Dalmatian coast, West of Lagosta Island and South of
Rome. Tarquinia airfield is also bombed.
Fourteenth Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-40 fighters strafe shipping at Haiphong, claiming 3 small
boats sunk and damaging 6 larger boats. 2 B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers and 4 P-40 fighters attack shipping in Gulf of Tonkin,
claiming a 150 ft tanker sunk and 200 ft freighter damaged.
Fifth Air Force. More than 60 United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Rabaul area, destroying
more than 20 aeroplanes on the ground. Of the 60 to 70 fighters
which intercept, the heavy bombers claim over 30 shot down.
A-20 Havoc light bombers hit positions near Lae. B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers carry out light strike against Manokwari.
