Events On This Day

North Africa. Incessant Allied air attack, on 15th Panzer Division positions from Mareth to Sfax.

In the Mediterranean. Malta based aircraft attacked Rome-Naples railway.

In India. Japanese air force bombers raided aerodrome in Southeast Bengal.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb docks and shipping at Sousse. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Djebel Tebaga landing ground. Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) fighters fly numerous patrols, sweeps, and reconnaissance flights over battle areas. Northwest African Tactical Bomber Force (NATBF) bombers hit Djebel Tebaga airfield and motor transport West of Sfax and Sousse (during 24-25 March 1943). XII A Support Command medium bombers and fighters hit Djebel Tebaga airfield, vehicles near Gabes, Mezzouna, Maknassy, and at several other points in battle areas.

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, in early daylight hours, bomb installations in Mareth area. P-40 fighters attack motor transport, tanks, and command targets in battle area. During 25-26 March 1943 heavy bombers, medium bombers, and Light bombers blast forces gathering in El Hamma area.

Tenth Air Force. 8 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb engine sheds at Maymyo for second consecutive day. Considerable damage is done although main shed is not hit.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound Rabaul and shipping, wharf, and town area at Amboina. Single B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers hit Lae, Gasmata, and Ubili.

Eleventh Air Force. Weather aeroplane take photos of Holtz Bay and Chichagof Harbour. 14 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, 3 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, 12 P-38 Lightning fighters, and 2 P-40 fighters fly 4 missions to Kiska. The targets include beach, runway, hangar area, North Head, the Main Camp and submarine base.
