Eighth Air Force. 167 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
heavy bombers make scattered attacks on targets in North West
Germany when primary targets at Bremen and Hamburg are obscured
by clouds. Of 7 YB-40 heavily armed escort bombers dispatched
only 4 are able to accompany formations to target area.
Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic
Air Force (NASAF) Wellingtons bomb docks and marshalling yard
at Olbia during
24-25
June 1943. On following day B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers
drop over 300 tons of bombs on Messina bombing marshalling
yard, West and North part of town warehouse area and part of
commercial quay.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers bomb and strafe several occupied villages
in Sepu area.
Thirteenth Air Force. During
24-25
June 1943 Jun B-24 Liberator heavy bombers attack Kahili area
and hit airfields on Buka Island. During the following day
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, escorted by P-40 fighters,
hit runway at Vila, airfield.
Eleventh Air Force. 2 photo and weather reconnaissance missions
by 2 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 6 attack missions by
25 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, 12 B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers, and 2 P-38 Lightning fighters hit Kiska. Targets
include gun revetments at Gertrude Cove and antiaircraft batteries.
