General Eaker, Commanding General, is advised by War Department (WD) of Combined
Chiefs of Staff decision to employ his fighters units primarily in an offensive
role in support of bombers.
Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). United
States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb Kairouan
airfield. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers sink several barges Northeast of Cap Bon.
B-26 Marauder medium bombers and B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb enemy
columns in Kasserine Pass and hit town of Kasserine, while B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers attack highway traffic near Sbeitla. A-20 Havoc light bombers and fighters
hit motor transport in wide area around Kasserine and Sbeitla.
Tenth
Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40 fighters knock out South
span of railroad bridge Northeast of Pinbaw.
Fifth Air Force. United
States Army Air Force (USAAF) A-20 Havoc light bombers continue to attack forces
at Guadagasal Saddle, Waipali, trails from Waipali to Guadagasal Saddle and Mubo,
and in area of Waria River mouth. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers pound Lae, Angari,
Yangla, Malahang landing strip, and smaller villages in the area. B-17 Flying
Fortress heavy bombers again hit shipping at Rabaul. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
continue single-plane harassing strikes on shipping and airfields in coastal areas
of Portuguese and Northeast New Guinea and in Solomon Sea off Cape Saint George.
Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers bomb Kahili and Faisi.
Eleventh Air Force. All except one
mission of 4 P-40 fighters, to Kiska, are called off. The P-40 fighters make no
contacts, however.
