miles from Rostov, captured by Russians.
In Australasia. Fighting continued
in Mubo-Wau area of New Guinea. United States of America troops made progress
in Guadalcanal.

B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb harbour and shipping at Tunis and shipping
in La Goulette harbour. Fighters escort bombers and cover ground forces in Sened-Maknassy
area. A-20 Havoc light bombers and P-40 fighters bomb tank and vehicle concentration
near Sidi Khalif.
Ninth Air Force Headquarters 9th Fighter Wing arrives
in Egypt.
Tenth Air Force. 7 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers from Pandaveswar bomb Arakan tea sheds on Rangoon River
near Rangoon harbour.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb runway and aircraft dispersal areas at
Rabaul. A lone B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bombs runway at Finschhafen, then
flies East to New Britain where it bombs runway at Cape Gloucester and unsuccessfully
attacks ship in Open Bay.
Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air
Force (USAAF) P-38 Lightning fighters, P-40 fighters, and P-39 fighters, along
with Navy and Marine aeroplanes, attack 4 destroyers North of Vangunu Island.
Hits on 2 of the ships cause fires. B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers attack
shipping in Shortland-Bougainville area, claiming 3 direct hits on cargo vessels.
Eleventh Air Force. All missions cancelled due to weather. Enemy aircraft
bomb and strafe Amchitka harbour and shipping without inflicting damage.
