Events On This Day

At night the The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Mosquitos carry out intensive raids on targets in Berlin.

Mr. Churchill addressed both Houses of Congress in Washington. Mr. Joseph Davies, President Roosevelt`s envoy, arrived in Moscow.

Eighth Air Force. 102 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers hit the Kriegsmarine U-boat yards at Kiel. A smaller force bombs naval yards at Flensburg.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Milis and Villacidro airfields while B-26 Marauder medium bombers bomb Monserrato and Elmas airfields, outskirts of Quarto Sant'Elena, and Cagliari harbour. B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb Milo airfield at Trapani.

Ninth Air Force. After 2 days of sand storms, Ninth Air Force aircraft are again airborne. P-40 fighters fly escort for ships in area East of Kelibia off Cap Bon peninsula.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Penfoei and airfield at Gasmata. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers attack Salamaua area and targets off Northeast coast of Huon Peninsula. Single heavy bombers hit Gasmata twice during the day.

Eleventh Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 11 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers fly 3 air ground support missions to Attu, bombing Sarana Valley. 4 P-40 fighters fly 2 reconnaissance missions to Kiska.
