Ninth Air Force. IX Troop Carrier Command's 50th Wing carries
paratroops of 101st Airborne Division in a rehearsal of cross
channel operations. This is first of an extended series of
training exercises to be conducted during the several months
preceding the planned invasion of West Europe.
Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) medium
bombers and light bombers of XII A Support Command and The
British Royal Air Force (RAF) attack Larissa airfield, billeting
area at Rivisondoli, and road, railway and town area West
of San Vito Chietino and at Lanciano. Fighter-bombers hit
ship in Krka River, trains at Knin marshalling yard and between
Knin and Kosovo landing ground at sin, harbour and vessels
at Sibenik, and defended points and gun positions along battle
line in Italy. Johann Albrecht Harbour while another bombs
a large transport near New Hanover. 20 B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers bomb Waingapoe. A-20 Havoc light bombers attack villages
around Finschhafen. P-47 Thunderbolt fighters shoot down several
aeroplanes over Wewak.
Fifteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, with P-38 Lightning fighters
escort, pound Eleusis airfield. P-38 Lightning fighters also
escort Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) attack
on same target and escort supply dropping mission to Yugoslavia.
Fourteenth Air Force. 12 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-40 fighters strafe troops and horses and sink a troop barge
at Shihmen. 4 others, in support of Chinese forces, strafe
Tahsai ferry.
Fifth Air Force. Over 30 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and B-26 Marauder medium bombers
hit enemy positions in Sattelberg area. B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers carry out light raid on Fak Fak. P-40 fighters bomb
Iworep.
Thirteenth Air Force. 4 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
squadrons of B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound Buka and Kara
airfields. 3 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers strafe Greenwich
Island.
Seventh Air Force. 19 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Nanumea bomb Mille. 2 others
hit Tarawa.
