bomb Milo, Sciacca, Castelvetrano, and Boccadifalco airfields.
B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, B-25 Mitchell medium bombers
, B-26 Marauder medium bombers, and P-38 Lightning fighters
follow during morning hours with raids on same targets and
hit Bo Rizzo airfield and radio stations near Marsala. Widespread
photo reconnaissance of mainland Italy, Sicily, and Sardinia
continues.
Twelfth Air Force. Colonel Harold A Barton takes command of
XII Air Force Services Command.
Tenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) medium
bombers score 2 direct hits on bridge at Myitnge.
Fourteenth Air Force. 10 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, escorted by 12 P-40 fighters,
support Chinese ground forces by bombing positions at Owchihkow.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers bomb airfields at Rabaul in predawn
strikes and hit Kendari airfield in the evening. A single
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers attacks power boat in Hanisch
Harbour and strafes beach near Finschhafen.
