Events On This Day

Light coastal forces manned by men of Royal Norwegian Navy penetrated fjord and torpedoed two vessels in Floroe harbour, North of Bergen.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Whirlwind bombers made daylight attacks on airfields at Abbeville and Maupertus.

Russian Front. The Wehrmacht ground forces claimed to have captured Kharkov.

In Burma. Heavy fighting in Rathedaung area, where Japanese launched attacks.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Weather cancels all missions except Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) fighters reconnaissance in Enfidaville-Sfax area and between Tunisia and Sicily.

Ninth Air Force. During 13-14 March 1943, The British Royal Air Force (RAF) Liberators under IX Bomber Command control hit harbour at Naples. During the day, fighters fly cover and sweep over battle area.

Tenth Air Force. 4 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Moulmein docks. 8 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit the often bombed Gokteik Viaduct but the structure remains serviceable.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Wewak, Tring, and Madang. Single B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb Gasmata, and strafe vessel off Talasea, antiaircraft position at Cape Gloucester, and Finschhafen airfield. A lone B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bombs Dili.
