Twelfth Air Force. Weather curtails operations. B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers bomb road, railroad, and landing ground at
Terracina. P-40 and A-36 Apache dive bomber fighter-bombers
hit trucks along roads in Chieti-Francavilla area and bomb
town of Itri. Fighters fly patrols and reconnaissance over
battle area.
Fifteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
Operations are limited to weather reconnaissance.
Tenth Air Force. 28 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers and 13 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
carry out saturation bombing strike against bridge at Myittha,
over which large volume of Japanese goods is flowing to the
North. Despite this large air effort only the approach spans
suffer effective damage.
Fourteenth Air Force. 41 Japanese bombers and fighters bomb
West side of Hengyang airfield, causing considerable damage.
31 P-40 fighters and 6 P-38 Lightning fighters intercept the
enemy force, claiming 20 aeroplanes shot down. 2 P-40 fighters
are lost. 9 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Hankow airfield.
Fifth Air Force United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40
fighters dive-bomb Bogadjim Road. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
make light raids on Ceram and in far West part of Netherlands
New Guinea.
Thirteenth Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers strafe Arigua Plantation. 8 others,
with fighters support, bomb supply area at Bonis. The fighters
afterwards strafe Japanese forces between Kieta and the Aropa
River. Other fighters aircraft strafe harbour at Tonolai and
cover Navy dive bomber strikes against targets in Ratsua,
Porton, Chabai, Soraken areas and Kieta Harbour Tobera Bay
area. 20 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Kahili area and
Poporang.
Seventh Air Force. 25 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers flying out of Ellice Islands
bases, bomb Emidj Island.
