and road net in Castelnuovo, Pescopagano, Cassino, Capua,
Formia areas. Heavy bombers attack Ariano intersection and
highway bridge (and bridges and roads in the area), bridges
near Botena and over the Tiber South West of Rome, and roads,
buildings, and railroad facilities at Isernia. XII A Support
Command and The British Royal Air Force (RAF) aeroplanes of
Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) blast heavy road
movement North from Lauria and cover beachheads in Salerno
area as British Eighth Army increases pressure on its front
in effort to prevent Germans from concentrating against United
States Fifth Army's Salerno beachhead. Wehrmacht troops occupy
Rome. During 10-

September 1943 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers of 12th Bomber
Group hit command centres at Corleto, Perticara, Auletta,
and Sapri.
Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24
Liberator heavy bombers bomb a satellite airfield at Foggia.
Tenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers again bomb Gokteik Viaduct. The approaches
are battered but the viaduct remains usable.
Fourteenth Air Force. 10 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 7 P-40 fighters hit cotton
warehouse North of Wuchang and docks at Hankow; 9 of 20 intercepting
Zeros are claimed destroyed. 6 P-38 Lightning fighters bomb
docks at Whampoa.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers attack barges along New Britain coast.
Australian 7th Division, having been flown to Nadzab in C-47
Skytrain transport aircraft, begins push East toward Lae.
Eleventh Air Force. 9 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers fly from Adak to Attu in preparation
for Paramushiru mission on the next day.
Zone of Interior. First and Fourth Air Forced are relieved
from their assignments to Eastern and Western Defence Commands
and hereafter serve primarily as training organisations.
