Events On This Day

At 4 a.m., the Germans launched a new offensive along the Somme and Aisne with massed infantry, tanks and aircraft. Battle became intense in regions of Amiens, Péronne and the Ailette Canal.

During the night of 4-5 June 1940, Allied air forces carried out extensive raids into Germany, causing great damage in the Rhur and elsewhere. Oil storage tanks set ablaze at Frankfurt, and Mannheim.

German raiders again attacked Le Havre.

Six German aircraft brought down by French fighters in Rouen region.
