Violent fighting continued between Valenciennes, Cumbria and
Arras.
British troops withdrew from Boulogne during the night of
23-24 May 1940,
German mechanised forces entered the town. they were shelled
by British warships outside the harbour.
South of the Somme French hold their line. Attacks between
Rethel and Sedan were repulsed.
Germans claimed to have captured Tournai and Ghent.
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombed communications in
Rhineland, including Cologne, and Coblenz. There was intense
activity over the fighting fronts.
German aircraft, active off the southeast coast at dawn.
The King broadcast a message to the Empire.
Further arrests were made of members of the British union
of Fascists, of IRA and of Communists.
