Fierce battle in progress on upper Scheldt between Landrecies
and Cambria. Germans crossed the Scheldt further north at
Audenarde. Allied forces withdrew to new positions behind
river Lys.
During the night of
22-23
May 1940, strong force of the British Royal Air Force (RAF)
bombers attacked the objectives behind fighting front in Meuse
sector, at Namur, Charleroi and North of the Aisne. Other
large formations penetrated into Germany. Power station near
Leipzig bombed.
The French Admiralty announced loss of coast of Holland of
submarine Doris destroyer Adroit, and supply ship Niger.
Sir Oswald Mosley and other leading fascists put under arrest.
