Events On This Day

The British Admiralty announced that the destroyer HMS Brazen had been lost through attack by Luftwaffe aircraft.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers made night attacks on aircraft factories and oil plants in Germany, and on aerodromes in France, Holland and Germany.

Coastal Command aircraft attacked docks and petrol stores at Amsterdam, barge conecentrations at Helder, and shipping at Dunkirke. Fleet Air Arm raided Bergen.

Cairo reported heavy raids during weekend by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers on Tobruk, El Gubbi and Bardia in Libya, and Asmara and Assab in Eritrea.

Luftwaffe aircraft reported late at night over England and Scotland, greatest activity being in Northeast and Southeast Scotland. Bombs dropped at many coastal points, including Thames Estuary. Dornier Do 17 shot down by Hurricane lighters off South Coast. Two, possibly three. German aircraft believed brought down by antiaircraft guns during raid over South West England.

Lord Halifax made broadcast,speech in reply to Adolf Hitler.
