Events On This Day

The British Admiralty announced that the trawler HMS Campina had been sunk by enemy mine.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) made widespread raids on aircraft factories, oil depots, twelve aerodromes, and other targets in Holland and Germany.

Coastal Command aircraft attacked patrol boats in Dunkirk harbour, oil tanks at Flushing and docks at Amsterdam.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) secured direct hits on submarine jetty in Tobruk harbour. El Gubbi and El Adem also attacked. South African Air Force (SAAF) made four raids on Diredawa aerodrome, Abyssinia.

Luftwaffe Dornier Do 17 was shot down by the British Royal Air Force (RAF) fighters near Northeast coast of Scotland. Coastal Command aircraft shot down enemy fying boat in same area.

Third War Budget, presented, by Sir Kingsley Wood, Income tax raised to 8/6. Higher duties on tobacco, Wines beer and entertainments.

P�tain. Government announced that M. Daladier and three members of his Cabinet are to be tried on charge of war responsibility.
