Events On This Day

The British Admiralty announced that the submarine HMS Salmon was considerably overdue and must be presumed lost. The trawler HMS Crestilower was reported sunk by Luftwaffe aircraft.

The British Royal Air Force (RAF) and French bombers attacked oil depots at Rotterdam, and Bremen; aircraft .factories at Wismarj, Bremen, Rotenburg, Kassel, and Gottingen goods yards at Hammand Soest and aerodromes in France, Holland and Belgium.

Coastal Command aircraft bombed 14,000 ton Kriegsmarine supply ship. Other aircraft set fire to oil tanks at Ghent.

Luftwaffe raids reported over various areas of Britain. In English Channel six Hurricanes, encountered 80 Dorniers Do 17 and Messerschmitts Bf 109. Four raiders shot down.

General Smuts lbroadcast to United Kingdom and United States of America on a free Europe.

Czechoslovak Govt. British recognition granted to Provisional Czechoslovak Government, with Dr. Benes as Premier.
