The British auxiliary patrol vessel HMS Girl Mary was reported
lost.
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) twice raided Berlin during
night. Heavy explosive and incendiary bombs were dropped and
many fires caused. Other targets were naval docks at Hamburg
and Wilhelmshaven, industrial works, including
Krupps
at Essen, and invasion ports. Other forces heavily attacked
industrial plants at Milan, Turin and Aosta.
The British Admiralty announced that German seaplane base
at Tromsoe had been successfully attacked by naval aircraft.
The war against Italy, The British Royal Air Force (RAF) carried
out successful raid on Tobruk. Cairo bombed for first time.
Luftwaffe day activity mainly over southeast England. Bombs
fell in London area arid in Kent and Essex. Houses on London
County Council (LCC) estate demolished. Residential area of
Thames estuary town attacked. Eleven bombs caused damage in
southeast coast town. At night Luftwaffe raiders flew over
in groups, splitting up as they neared inner zone. In London
area houses and other buildings were damaged and fires started.
Small Midlands town and district heavily attacked.
Seven Luftwaffe aircraft destroyed.
Three British lighters lost, but all pilots safe.
Heavy shelling from both sides across Straits of Dover.
