Events On This Day

Finns maintain their positions on the outskirts of Salla. Enemy attacked at various points on Karelian Isthmus, but were repulsed, and the large numbers of Russian guns and prisoners were captured.

Christmas weekend was reported to have been generally quiet on the Western front.

First Squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force to reach England for active service landed at South Coast port.

It was reported that three more neutral ships were sunk during the weekend. The Swedish vessel, Carl Henkel. The Norwegian cargo boat Lappen. And Spanish steamer Perez.

Swedish reservists were called up.
