Räumbootsflottille was formed in 1938 and was initially commanded by Gerhard
von Kamptz, this flotilla was made up of the following 1936-42 Type and 1937-43
Type R-boats and was deployed for minesweeping and security duties.
The 2. Räumbootsflottille was disbanded after the Allied invasion of France
but was soon reformed under the command of Hans-Joachim
Merks. And after Germany's surrender the flotilla was used in mine clearing
duties.
