History

The 2. Räumbootsflottille was formed in 1938 and was initially commanded by Gerhard von Kamptz, this flotilla was made up of the following 1936-42 Type and 1937-43 Type R-boats and was deployed for minesweeping and security duties.

The 2. Räumbootsflottille was disbanded after the Allied invasion of France but was soon reformed under the command of Hans-Joachim Merks. And after Germany's surrender the flotilla was used in mine clearing duties.

After the war had ended the 2. Räumbootsflottille was deployed for minesweeping by the The German Mine Sweeping Administration (GMSA).
