The 50 mm MK 214A (Maschinenkanone 214A) was designed by
Mauser
Werke AG alongside the
5 cm BK
(Bordkanone) which was designed by
Rheinmetall-Borsig.
The 50 mm MK 214 was of a complicated construction, and there
were 390 individual parts, which made it far too complicated
for aircraft installation, however the second version the
50 mm MK 214A was installed in the
Me
262 and this was test flown by Karl
Baur in February 1945. Extensive testing was carried out
during March 1945.
