Anti-aircraft
artillery became more and more important as the war progressed at the start of
the war. Germany had 8,950 anti-aircraft guns. By June 1944. They had 45,550 and
the majority were allocated to the Western defences against British and American
bombers.
Probably the most famous anti-aircraft gun is 8.8 cm Flak 18/36/37/41
which could be found on almost every battlefield as well as being an outstanding
anti-aircraft gun the 8.8 cm Flak 18/36/37/41 was used in an anti-tank role. Its
success in the anti-tank role led to it being used as the main armament for tanks,
such as the
Tiger I 8.8
