Events On This Day

Eighth Air Force. More than 400 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers dispatched to attack targets in West Germany are recalled before leaving United Kingdom coast due to clouds over bases, routes, and targets. 2 Continent based P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers groups strafe rail targets and parked aircraft.

Ninth Air Force. 320 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-26 Marauder medium bombers, A-20 Havoc light bombers, and A-26 Invader light bombers strike road junction, marshalling yard, 3 defended areas, and 10 casual targets in Germany. Fighters fly armed reconnaissance, bomb numerous ground targets, and support United States XII Corps which has, on 7 February 1945, crossed Our and Sauer Rivers between Vianden and Echternach and established bridgeheads.

Twelfth Air Force. During 7-8 February 1945, on intruder missions A-20 Havoc light bombers bomb various targets at 58 points in Po Valley and Brenner Pass area. Medium bombers during day attack bridges at Calliano, Chiusaforte, Dogna and Piacenza. Fighters and fighter-bombers closely support United States Fifth Army forces in Serchio Valley where counter-attacks oppose Allied offensive and destroy Nervesa della Battaglia railroad bridge and oil dump North of Mestre.

Fifteenth Air Force. More than 500 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb Southeast Vienna command targets and marshalling yard at Graz, plus several targets. 270 P-38 Lightning fighters and P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers escort. 12 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers drop supplies in Yugoslavia. 11 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers sweep Zagreb area. Other P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers and P-38 Lightning fighters fly reconnaissance and reconnaissance escort.

Tenth Air Force. 72 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-47 Thunderbolt fighters support ground forces in Myitson area. 37 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters and P-38 Lightning fighters hit troops, supply areas, ammunition dumps, and targets at Namsaw, Hsun-kwe, Loi-Kong, Nawng-un, Hsipaw, Panghai, and Kongnio, and bomb village near Pangkawn. Transports fly 581 sorties carrying men and supplies to forward bases and dropping supplies to front line areas.

Fourteenth Air Force. 10 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers knock out bridge at Shihtangchung and blast bridge approach at Changsha. 9 other fighters knock out another bridge North of Changsha. 4 fighters hit railroad targets from Linfen to Yutze to Shihkiachwang and bomb Tsinan airfield.

Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb town of Mariveles. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers sink or damage several small vessels along Luzon's East coast and hit Legaspi airfield. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Manggar and Sepinggang airfields.

Twentieth Air Force. 30 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's from the Marianas bomb Moen Island airfield.

Seventh Air Force. 20 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Guam bomb radar and radio installations and antiaircraft defences on Iwo Jima in the afternoon. During 8-9 February 1945, 10 fly single-plane snooper strikes against the island's airfields.

Eleventh Air Force. 4 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers abort mission to Masugawa River when unable to identify the target.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Bacton.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Walthamstow.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit near Sheringham.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Chislehurst.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Fobbing.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Bethnal Green.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Erith.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Ilford.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Rettendon.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Chislehurst / Sidcup.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Greenwich.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Cock Clark.

V-2 rocket launched against England, hit Dagenham.
