B-25 Mitchell medium bombers sink several sampans and junks
at Haiphong and damage several larger vessels. 2 B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers and 2 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters knock out bridge
South of Chumatien. 37 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers over Indochina
and South and East China blast shipping in Hongay and Haiphong
area, pound docks and small vessels at Chikhom, knock out
bridge at Chumatien, blast barracks area at Anyang, and hit
river and rail traffic around Tanchuk and Chenghsien.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Toshien, Takao, Toyohara
and nearby Kamioka supply area, and Taihoku airfield. Fighter-bombers
fly nearly 100 sorties in support of ground forces in Kiangan
area. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Manggar and Riko.
Australian troops cross Balikpapan Bay and land on West shore.
P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers sweeping Kyushu strafe targets
and down several aircraft.
Seventh Air Force. 46 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 24 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers
all from Okinawa bomb Omura airfield and 2 towns in the Omura,
Nagasaki area.
VII Fighter Command. 100 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
fighters, based on Iwo Jima, strike Ibaraki, Yatabe, Yawatasaki
Cape, and Maruta.
