heavy bombers bomb marshalling yard in Berlin and a synthetic
oil plant and transportation targets at Magdeburg. Around
900 fighters support the heavy bombers.
Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) 9th
Bomber Division attacks Berg Gladbach storage and repair depot,
Dahlem command centre, rail bridges at Ahrweiler and Sinzig,
and marshalling yard at Junkerath. Fighters escort 9th Bomber
Division, fly patrols, and carry out armed reconnaissance
over West Germany.
Twelfth Air Force. Weather restricts combat operations to
an attack by 4 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-47 Thunderbolt
fighters on Sonico marshalling yard.
Fifteenth Air Force. Weather again cancels bombing operations.
United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-38 Lightning fighters
fly photo and weather reconnaissance. P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers
escort photo reconnaissance while other P-38 Lightning fighters
escort Mediterranean Allied Tactical Air Force (MATAF) B-26
Marauder medium bombers on transport run to Yugoslavia.
Tenth Air Force. 12 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-26
Marauder medium bombers attack troops and supplies at Loilem.
27 fighter-bombers close by support ground forces in Molo,
Hosi, and Myitson areas. 80 fighter-bombers hit troop concentrations,
supplies, town areas, tanks, and other targets at Kyaung-hen,
Mongkyet, Hsipaw, Hsenwi, Nasang, Konghsa, and Hkaihsi. Transports
complete 531 sorties, landing men and supplies at advanced
bases and dropping supplies to forward troops.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers again pound Corregidor and Canacao
peninsula. Other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Aparri and
Tuguegarao. In Batangas area A-20 Havoc light bombers continue
ground support missions. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb
Cebu City and surrounding targets. B-26 Marauder medium bombers
and P-38 Lightning fighters hit Matina, Daliao, and Padada
airfields.
Seventh Air Force. 9 Saipan based United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Chichi Jima. 10 others
hit Iwo Jima while 9, flying single bomber harassment strikes,
pound Iwo Jima during 3-

February 1945. 16 P-38 Lightning fighters, part of a force
escorting photo aeroplanes, strafe the island in 2 wave attack.
