Eighth Air Force. Approximately 400 United States Army Air
Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers drop food
supplies in populated areas in the Netherlands, mostly at
Schiphol and Alkmaar airfields, Vogelenzang, Hilversum, and
Utrecht.
Ninth Air Force. Weather cancels United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) 9th Bomber Division operations. Fighters fly Air Force
cover, defensive freelance patrols, sweep over Dessau area,
and patrol Straubing Ingolstadt area and United States Third
Army front in Austria and Czechoslovakia. Soviet forces are
in complete command of Berlin.
Twelfth Air Force. Bad weather continues. Medium bombers are
grounded while XXII Tactical Air Command flies uneventful
armed reconnaissance in Northeast Italy.
Fifteenth Air Force. Bad weather limits operations to 1 weather
reconnaissance mission.
Fourteenth Air Force. 5 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers mine areas of Yangtze River.
20 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and about 130 fighter-bombers
attack command targets and supply lines and hit a large variety
of targets throughout South and East China as the air campaign
accelerates with aim of disrupting imminent withdrawal of
Japanese and abandonment of their Greater East Asia Corridor.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers
pound troops near Ipo Dam while B-25 Mitchell medium bombers,
A-20 Havoc light bombers, and fighters hit Cagayan Valley
targets. Far East Air Force (FEAF) strikes in support of ground
forces continue on Luzon and on Cebu Island. B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers continue support for Australian troops on Tarakan
Island and, in conjunction with Navy aeroplanes, bomb Kudat
airfield.
Seventh Air Force. 12 Iwo based United States Army Air Force
(USAAF) P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers strike radio station
on Chichi Jima. 12 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers from Guam
pound Param airfield while 21, flying in 2 forces, hit airfields
and gun positions on Marcus. During 2-

May 1945, 9 more heavy bombers make individual harassment
bombings on Param, Moen, and Tol Island.
