(USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers damages railroad bridge
over Huto River. 4 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 4 P-51
Mustang fighter-bombers knock out bridge South of Kuanshuishih.
2 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers over Indochina attack locomotives
near Vinh. About 30 fighter-bombers attack command and transportation
targets around Yoyang, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Quang Tri, Vinh Yen,
and Chenghsien.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). Approximately 100 United States
Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Kiirun
and several other towns on Formosa. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers,
and fighter-bombers hit Tainan alcohol plant and targets in
Tokyo area. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, B-25 Mitchell medium
bombers, and A-20 Havoc light bombers hit a variety of targets
in North while other fighter-bombers hit Central part of Luzon
including Cagayan Valley, Baguio, Balete, and Ipo areas. Heavy
bombers hit airfields at Oelin, Tabanio, and Fort Brook.
Twentieth Air Force. Ground echelon of 509th Comp Group begins
to arrive on Tinian. 454 B-29 Superfortress heavy bomber's,
escorted by 101 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers from the VII
Fighter Command for first time on a fire-bomb raid, bomb Yokohama
with incendiaries and destroy the main business district a
third of the city's area along the waterfront. Burned out
area of Yokohama now amounts to almost 9 square miles. About
150 fighters attack the formations. 7 B-29 Superfortress heavy
bomber's and 3 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers are lost. The
P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers claim 26 fighters shot down while
the very heavy bombers claim 6.
Eleventh Air Force. 4 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers weather abort a shipping sweep
along the East coasts of Paramushiru and Shimushu.
