June 1945, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers
over Soerabaja Strait area bomb Tandjoeng-perak airfield.
For the fifteenth consecutive day, B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
pound Balikpapan destroying oil facilities and shore defences.
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit warehouses, other buildings,
and general waterfront area. Other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
bomb Mandai and Limboeng airfields. Fighter-bombers hit Kiangan
area, troop concentration North West of Bolog, Pagong area,
and Bontoc-Sabangan area, provide ground support near Montalban,
and hit targets in Infanta sector.
Twentieth Air Force. During 27-
28
June 1945, 29 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-29 Superfortress
heavy bomber's mine harbours of Hagi, Kobe, and Niigata.
Seventh Air Force. In early morning raid from Guam, 3 United
States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers
bomb underground storage area and fortifications on Marcus.
At midday 18 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers pound airfield on
Moen. 20 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters from Ie Shima hit shipping
and village at Kikai Island. Antiaircraft from vessels downs
2 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters. 1 vessel is left aflame. 12 other
P-47 Thunderbolt fighters hit shipping off Kakeroma Island,
while 20 more attack vessels and targets throughout Sakishima
Archipelago. During 27-
28
June 1945, 5 P-61 Black Widow, night fighters fly intruder
attacks, hitting vessels off Amami Gunto and Wan airfield.
VII Fighter Command. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
fighter strikes, from Iwo Jima, against Kasumigaura, Imba,
and Tsukuba are aborted because of weather.
