Eighth Air Force. The 3 Bomber Divisions of the Eighth are
redesignated Air Divisions. Over 700 heavy bombers attack
3 oil targets, 5 Rhine River bridges, and rail junctions,
3 marshalling yards, various other targets in 10 cities, and
several targets all in Germany. 14 escorting fighters groups
battle over 120 fighters in Frankfurt Main and Hannover areas,
claiming 17 kills, including a jet fighters.
Ninth Air Force. The Luftwaffe launches an attack of 700 to
800 aeroplanes against Ninth Air Force and Allied airfields,
mainly in Brussels and Eindhoven areas, and to a lesser degree
in Metz area. 127 operational Allied aircraft are destroyed.
Allied fighters claim 160 air victories while antiaircraft
claims 300. 190 A-20 Havoc light bombers, A-26 Invader light bombers, and B-26
Marauder medium bombers hit rail bridges, command centres,
road junction, a command post, and Headquarters, all in Belgium
and Germany. Fighters escort 9th Bomber Division and Eighth
Air Force bombers, fly patrols, sweeps, and armed reconnaissance
claiming 39 air victories and numerous ground targets destroyed
and support United States III, VII, and XII Corps between
Saint-Hubert and the Mosel River.
Twelfth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) medium
bombers attack bridges at Palazzuolo sull'Oglio, Parma, and
Calcinato latter 2 targets are missed and ammunition dump
at Parma. Fighter-bombers support ground forces South of Bologna,
hit command and numerous targets to the North and completely
destroy a fuel dump at Parma. Light bombers on intruder missions
during
31 December
1945 to 1 January 1945 achieve excellent results on motor
park near Molinella and hit marshalling yard near Milan.
Fifteenth Air Force. Unfavourable weather permits only P-38
Lightning fighters reconnaissance flights.
Tenth Air Force. 71 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-47
Thunderbolt fighters and P-38 Lightning fighters attack villages,
general supply areas, fuel dumps, tanks and other vehicles,
and troop concentrations at several locations including Man
Hio, Bahe, Mongmit, Hatka, Namhpakha, Loihseng, Mong Yaw and
in Hsenwi area. 4 others hit targets along the Irrawaddy from
Tanaung to Kyungyi. 4 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers harass
command lines during 1-

January 1945. Large-scale air transport operations continue.
Fourteenth Air Force. 3 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Fort Bayard. 40 P-51 Mustang
fighter-bombers and P-40 fighters pound railroad targets,
warehouses, industrial works, and gun positions from Yoyang
to Puchi. 8 P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers hit Suchow airfield,
claiming 25 aeroplanes destroyed. 47 other P-40 fighters and
P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers on armed reconnaissance hit troops,
horses, town areas, and rail and road traffic at several locations.
Especially at Liuchenghsien and between Siaokan and Hsuchang.
Far East Air Force (FEAF). United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and fighter-bombers make low-level
attacks on Negros Island airfields. B-24 Liberator heavy bombers,
with P-38 Lightning fighters cover, bomb Clark Field. Others
pound Sasa area and along with B-25 Mitchell medium bombers
hit Djailolo, Wasile Bay bivouac areas, and Miti ammunition
dump. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb airfields on Ceram
and barracks at Laoag. Fighter-bombers are active against
targets in Manila area and also hit Silay. Airfields, shipyards,
and other targets in Borneo, Celebes and Lesser Sunda Islands
also sustain light raids, by Far East Air Force (FEAF) United
States fighters and bombers, which also fly armed reconnaissance.
