of blind bombing equipment cause more than 30 other heavy
bombers to return to base without bombing. More than 450
P-47 Thunderbolt fighters, P-38 Lightning fighters, and
P-51 Mustang fighter-bombers attack airfields and other
ground targets in Germany and West Europe.
Twelfth Air Force. Weather precludes all light bombers and
medium bombers action. P-40 fighters hit Colleferro railway
station, several fuel dumps, and gun positions in United
States Fifth Army battle areas. A-36 Apache dive bomber
bomb Formia, and railway stations North West of Rome and
in Frosinone area.
Fifteenth Air Force. 334 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24 Liberator heavy
bombers bomb Ploesti, town area of Leskovac, and marshalling
yard at Nish. Fighters and antiaircraft shoot down 13 heavy
bombers.
Tenth Air Force. 13 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb railroad from Moulmein
to Kanchanaburi, destroying 3 bridges, damaging several
others, and causing much damage to track and railroad cars.
6 A-31 Vengeance dive bomber's over Chindwin area pound
targets around Thaungdut.
Fourteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-40 fighters from Yungning pound railroad siding at Na
Cham, destroying 8 boxcars and a considerable amount of
track.
Fifth Air Force. 270 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, B-25 Mitchell medium bombers,
A-20 Havoc light bombers, and P-38 Lightning fighters hit
Hollandia town and dock area and villages and stores around
Humboldt Bay. P-47 Thunderbolt fighters and P-40 fighters
blast numerous targets in Hansa Bay, Bogia and Wewak areas.
B-24 Liberator heavy bombers hit Kaimana and Efman Island.
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Koepang.
Thirteenth Air Force. 12 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers pound Kara. Bad weather cancels
all missions against targets in the Bismarcks.
Seventh Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers from Tarawa hit Maloelap, bomb up
again at Majuro, and hit Jaluit during return trip.
