yard.
Twelfth Air Force. Over 130 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
XII Bomber Command B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb
Viterbo airfield and town of Civitavecchia. Over 200 B-25
Mitchell medium bombers and B-26 Marauder medium bombers hit
landing grounds at Grazzanise. Other medium bombers and fighters
hit Pula radar station and town of Pabillonis. Weather hampers
operations of the fighters, medium bombers, and lighter bombers
of Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF) (Twelfth Air
Force and The British Royal Air Force (RAF) aircraft) and
only a few targets (guns, roads, railroads, and troops) are
attacked during missions over toe of Italy.
Ninth Air Force. General Strahm, Chiefs of Staff, assumes
temporary command during absence of General Brereton. Colonel
John C Kilborn assumes command of IX Bomber Command upon departure
of General Ent from the theatre.
Fourteenth Air Force. 15 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
fighter-bombers pound marshalling yard Southeast of Lao Kay;
16 others hit barracks in the city.
