1st Composite Squadron and United States Navy (USN) land based aircraft sink the Kriegsmarine U-boat, U-848 in South Atlantic, 10-09S 18-OOW.

Eighth Air Force. 436 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers, including 9 Pathfinder aircraft, attack marshalling yard and oil plants at Gelsenkirchen and marshalling yard at Munster.

Ninth Air Force. Eighth Air Force training officer arrives to assist Ninth Fighter Command Headquarters in setting up comprehensive training system for fighters pilots. Training is based on the Eighth Air Force system. Eighth Air Force and The British Royal Air Force (RAF) co-operate with the Ninth in instituting this program. Over 150 medium bombers bomb construction works at Mimoyecques. Poor visibility causes one group to bomb area South West of primary targets, and bad weather causes numerous aborts.

Twelfth Air Force. XII A Support Command B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Berat, Kucove airfields in Albania. Northwest African Tactical Bomber Force (NATBF) bombs roads East of Atina and North of Rome, and hits vehicles moving South from Pescara. XII A Support Command and Desert Air Force (DAF) fighters and fighter-bombers attack motor transport North of Vasto, bridges and roads West of Isernia, Cassino, and Atena Lucana, town of Castrocielo, and vessels off Split.

Fifteenth Air Force. 3 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers on low-level raid bomb Falconara Marittima railroad bridge and highway bridge. P-38 Lightning fighters escort a XII A Support Command raid on Berat Kucove airfield.

Fifth Air Force. 90 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) heavy bombers and fighters attack wharf areas of Rabaul while Japanese aeroplanes from surrounding airfields search for carrier force that hit Rabaul earlier in the day. B-26 Marauder medium bombers and P-39 fighters hit Bogadjim Road, B-25 Mitchell medium bombers pound positions North West of Dumpu, and P-39 fighters bomb and strafe Madang area. P-47 Thunderbolt fighters over Wewak encounter force of fighters and claim about 20 shot down.

Thirteenth Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit bivouac area at Kieta and sink at least 6 barges between Kieta and Banin Harbour. Allied fighters from Munda area cover carrier strike which causes considerable damage to shipping in harbour at Rabaul.
