Russian Front. Krymskaya, in the Kuban, captured by Soviet
troops. Russian bombers raided Dnepropetrovsk and Briansk
by night.
Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Northwest African Strategic
Air Force (NASAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers bomb
vessel off Capo San Vito, hit Tunis harbour, and attack ships
and docks at La Goulette. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and
B-26 Marauder medium bombers bomb shipping off Marettimo Island
and East of Cape Zebib, and hit landing ground at Galaat el
Andeless and near Protville. Northwest African Tactical Air
Force (NATAF) fighters and bombers fly 6 missions against
strongholds on Northeast and East slopes of Djebel Bou Aoukaz
as British 5 Corps' 1st Division attacks and gains the position.
Fighters hit shipping in Gulf of Tunis and attack landing
grounds and concentrations near Protville. Wellingtons bomb
roads at Bir Meherga.
Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40
fighters strafe and bomb bridge, vessels, docks, warehouses,
and other buildings at Nabeul harbour.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers pound Toeal. A lone B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers bombs airfields at Cape Gloucester and Gasmata.
Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-38 Lightning fighters and Navy F4U Corsair fighter administer
thorough strafing to Nyanga.
Eleventh Air Force. Weather reconnaissance aeroplane over
Attu observes float-plane burning on water. 14 B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers, 17 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers, 16 P-38 Lightning
fighters, 32 P-40 fighters, and 5 F-5A reconnaissance aircraft
fly 4 attack missions to Attu and 6 (partly with Royal Canadian
Air Force (RCAF) pilots) to Kiska. Bombs are dropped on Attu
installations and fighters strafe and set afire 1 seaplane
and silence antiaircraft guns. Targets include Main Camp,
radar site, North and South Head, runway, and Gertrude Cove
installations.
