Events On This Day

Russian Front. During night of 3-4 June 1943, 500 Soviet long-range air force aircraft attacked railway junction of Orel.

Army revolution broke out in Argentina against pro-Axis Government of President Ramón Castillo.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). During 3-4 June 1943, Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) Wellingtons bomb Syracuse, Catanzaro, and Pantelleria, which is also hit on the following day by fighters, light bombers, medium bombers, and heavy bombers, of Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) and Northwest African Tactical Air Force (NATAF).

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers attack Grottaglie airfield, leaving hangars and other building in flames. Gunners claim 3 fighters shot down.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb airfields at Boram, Wewak, and Dagua. B-25 Mitchell medium bombers hit Koepang and Lautem.

Eleventh Air Force. 404th Bomber Squadron begins to operate from Amchitka. 6 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers following a Navy Ventura make a radar bombing run over North Head. 14 P-40 fighters and P-38 Lightning fighters bomb North Head, Main Camp and Little Kiska. 4 P-38 Lightning fighters and 1 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers flying air cover over Attu make no enemy contact.
