bombers bomb Savona and Varazze, Porto Maurizio, and Imperia
marshalling yard. Weather reduces efforts of Northwest African
Tactical Air Force (NATAF) elements. Northwest African Tactical
Bomber Force (NATBF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Frosinone.
Fighter-bombers, mainly of XII A Support Command, hit bridges,
junctions, shipping, marshalling yard, gun positions, and
vehicles at several locations, including Giulianova, Ancona,
Ortona, Sessa Aurunca, Mignano, and Cassino.
Fourteenth Air Force. 7 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and 12 P-40 fighters pound motor
pool and barracks at Shayang. 9 P-38 Lightning fighters hit
Chiuchiang dock area. 2 interceptors are shot down.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers strafe barges in Rein Bay.
Thirteenth Air Force. Kara airfield is bombed by 16 B-24 Liberator
heavy bombers and shortly afterwards is hit by 90 Navy dive
bombers escorted by Navy and Army Air Force fighters. Airstrip
and other targets at Kieta are attacked by 6 B-25 Mitchell
medium bombers, 12 P-39 fighters and Navy aircraft. Tonolai
harbour area is hit by 8 P-40 fighters and 17 Navy planes.
