Twelfth Air Force. General Saville becomes Commanding General,
XII Fighter Command. Weather curtails operations. Fighter-bombers
of XII A Support Command attack motor transport, roads, and
bridges during al med reconnaissance missions from Volturno
Valley North to Isernia and West to Benevento.
Fourteenth Air Force. 5 United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
P-40 fighters divebomb and strafe Yangtze River shipping in
Chiuchiang area. Strafing damages several small craft.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers strafe villages in Talasea area and
barges off Gasmata. B-26 Marauder medium bombers bomb Hoskins
airfield. A B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bombs Cape Gloucester
airfield. Other B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb Amboina.
Australian forces take town and harbour of Finschhafen and
prepare to take nearby commanding positions still held by
the Japanese.

B-25 Mitchell medium bombers join Navy dive bombers in attacking
Hamberi Cove barge hideout near Vila.
