June 1943 Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) Wellingtons
bomb Messina marshalling yards and Villa San Giovanni. The

Of the 18 arriving at the forward base, 2 are released from
duty because of engine trouble, 2 crash on takeoff, and 8
are grounded after second crash. 6 heavy bombers are airborne
for the mission, 2 abort, 2 fail to find Nauru because of
heavy front, and 2 drop bombs on the island, with unobserved
results.
Eleventh Air Force. 6 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bomb Gertrude
Cove, Little Kiska and southern Main Camp area through holes
in overcast. Mission is partly ineffective because of faulty
