The British Royal Air Force (RAF) bombers made heaviest air attack of the war on Dortmund by night over 2,000 tons of bombs dropped in an hour, 38 aircraft missing.

Sharp Luftwaffe daylight attacks by Fw l90s on two south coast towns England.

Northwest African Air Forces (NAAF). Colonel John W Monahan takes command of Northwest African Training Command (NATC). Northwest African Strategic Air Force (NASAF) B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and B-26 Marauder medium bombers bomb docks and airfield of Pantelleria and P-40 fighters attack gun positions on the island. P-38 Lightning fighters attack zinc works at Iglesias and Carloforte harbour.

Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40 fighters fly convoy escort off Tunisia.

Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers hit harbour and airfield at Kavieng, airfield at Gasmata, and village of Ubili.

Thirteenth Air Force. 5 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers bomb airfields at Kahili and Ballale Island during 23-24 May 1943. 10 B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers, attempting follow-up strike, abort because of bad weather. While other aircraft are successfully laying mines in North Solomons in Buin area, 19 B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers and B-24 Liberator heavy bombers, in diversionary raid, bomb Buin-Kahili-Tonolai shoreline area.

Seventh Air Force. A flight of P-40 fighters on patrol from Kauai bomb submarine from 1,500 ft, after which oil slick and debris are seen.

Eleventh Air Force. 6 United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 12 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers fly 3 air-ground support missions to Attu. Due to bad weather they are routed to Kiska. Weather there is also poor and only 1 B-25 Mitchell medium bombers bombs Main Camp area. Next, 3 B-24 Liberator heavy bombers and 18 P-38 Lightning fighters fly 3 air cover missions to Attu. The last of these missions is notified by a PBY that 16 bombers are West of Attu. 5 of the P-38 Lightning fighters then intercept the bombers over Attu, which jettison their bombs and close formation. The P-38 Lightning fighters score 5 kills and 7 probables 2 P-38 Lightning fighters are lost.
