Santo Stefano di Camastra and Orlando. IJS Seventh Army mops
up in West Sicily. British Eighth Army's 30 Corps meets firm
opposition as it moves East from Leonforte.
Ninth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) P-40
fighters escort C-47 Skytrain transport aircraft to Licata.
The British Royal Air Force (RAF) heavy bombers hit Reggio
di Calabria airfield.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers, B-26 Marauder medium bombers, B-24
Liberator heavy bombers, and B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bombers
again pound targets in coastal Northeast New Guinea, hitting
Malolo, Asini, Busama, Voco Point, and Salamaua, blasting
barges from Hanisch Harbour to Wald Bay and Cape Busching,
and thoroughly bombing Bogadjim.
Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and P-40 fighters, along with
Navy dive bombers, pound Rekata Bay area.
