on armed reconnaissance hit motor transport South of Locri-Gioia
Tauro area and Northeast of Bagnara.
Ninth Air Force. All fighters and medium bombers groups of
Ninth Air Force are transferred to Twelfth Air Force.

P-40 fighters bomb Japanese Headquarters and supply dump at
Tengehung, and strafe trucks and troops in the area, 2 others
strafe road traffic between Tengehung and Lungling.
Fifth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF) B-25
Mitchell medium bombers strike Dili. As result of air offensive
against Wewak and satellite airfields, Japanese airpower on
New Guinea is sufficiently naturalised for 4 Allied destroyers
to proceed along coast from Milne Bay to Finschhafen. After
bombarding Finschhafen during 22-
23
August 1943, the warships return to Milne Bay.
Thirteenth Air Force. United States Army Air Force (USAAF)
B-25 Mitchell medium bombers and naval dive bombers, escorted
by fighters aircraft, bomb barge centres on West Vella Lavella
Island.
